Verdict
García is more interesting when he's doing a two- or three-agave blend – this release is the greatest-hits version of his palenque, and while it lacks the focus of his bicuishe-madrecuishe, it's a useful single-bottle education in what his site produces. Compare to a Rey Campero ensamble at the same price and this comes out slightly ahead on coherence.
An ensamble that doesn't pretend each agave gets equal airtime
Tasting notes
Nose: Stone with green melon, faint white flower
Palate: On paper this should be too busy; in the glass it works because three of the four agaves are from the same family. At 47.5% García keeps the structure legible and the tepextate's aromatic lift rides on top of the karwinskii weight
Finish: Mineral, layered – long
The bottom line
A good introduction to the palenque; his two-agave ensambles are sharper
