- ABV: 51%
- Price: $145 ($$)
Verdict
Twenty consensus reviews at 4.3 places this near the top of 5 Sentidos' consistent performers, and at 51% this is a bottle we come back to in the cabinet. Comparable Real Minero jabalí-tobala releases run higher in price; this one lands with nearly as much character for less. Martinez's clay-pot technique is the reason. Hunt it on sight.
Two difficult agaves, one clay pot, no compromise
Tasting notes
Nose: Tropical fruit, then wet stone, wildflower, dry cocoa
Palate: Jabalí and tobala are the two agaves most commonly underdelivered in ensambles. At 51% Martinez puts both in clay and comes out with a blend where neither is sanded down – tobala brings the lift, jabalí brings the texture, the proof makes the argument
Finish: Warm, perfumed – very long
The bottom line
Chase it down. One of the best jabalí-tobala ensambles at this price tier
