Verdict
Fifteen consensus reviews at 4.1 suggests drinkers are more forgiving on proof than we are here. The Pérez family in Miahuatlán is excellent and the liquid is clean, but madrecuishe really wants 48%+ to deliver its full structural weight. If you want a reference madrecuishe, the Vago or Mezcalosfera releases at higher proof remain the picks. This one is honest and a shade under-realized.
Madrecuishe is the agave where proof is the tax you pay for character
Tasting notes
Nose: Wet stone, cucumber, dry moss
Palate: Madrecuishe below 48% ABV always signals caution, and at approximately 45% this bottle tips into the danger zone, the mineral weight is there but the texture doesn't quite extend as far as it wants to. Still, the Pérez family's intent shows through and the agave's character reads true
Finish: Chalky, slightly clipped. Stays medium-long
The bottom line
Pass in favor of a higher-proof madrecuishe; come back when Tio Tello runs it hotter
