5 Sentidos Mexicano & Tobala

Luis Enrique Juarez on mexicano-tobala – the refrescador suits the blend

Score: 4.0/5 agaves

Verdict

Of the Juarez family releases from San Agustín Amatengo, the ones where tobala is involved tend to justify the rig – it gives the aromatics somewhere to go. One consensus rating seems cautious; we'd sit at 4.0 because the proof is right and the agaves are compatible. Not as punchy as a 5 Sentidos Martinez tobala ensamble, but worth a seat at the flight.

The refrescador finds its agaves, finally

Tasting notes

Nose: Ripe pear walks in first. Then green stone, wet earth, a lift of wildflower

Palate: Tobala on the refrescador reads lighter than on copper; mexicano provides the needed body. At 49.9% the proof is where these two agaves want to live, and the blend finally shows the refrescador's virtues – a slightly oily, aromatic middle

Finish: Mineral, perfumed

The bottom line

Buy it. The refrescador's best argument in the catalog
