Verdict
Most producers at 56.5% lose the agave voice to the proof – Tío Tello keeps it. The agave's full character survives the concentration instead of getting buried in pure alcohol intensity. Puntas is a specialist format; this is a specialist release. For high-proof drinkers who've already calibrated on the Mal Bien puntas range.
Puntas is the edge of the category
Tasting notes
Nose: Concentrated cooked agave, hot stone, warm citrus, a faint mineral note and trace of dried herb
Palate: Electric at 56.5% – puntas doesn't compromise. The concentrated first distillate cut preserves the agave's full character without dilution; Tío Tello's hand produces a bottle that stays drinkable even at this proof, which is the whole test of a puntas release
Finish: Endless. Warming, limestone, with a slow herb fade
The bottom line
For high-proof specialists
