- Agave: Sierra Negra
- ABV: 46%
- Price: $125 ($$)
Verdict
Four consensus reviews at 4.4 confirms what we hear elsewhere: Alejandro is one-half of the Albarradas sierra negra conversation. The bottle lands just below Martinez's on the strength of proof alone, but it's within the same conversation. Compared with a Rey Campero americana or a Real Minero largo, this remains distinctively Albarradas.
Albarradas has two sierra negra masters; this is the second-most-famous
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave over wet earth, dark honey, green herb
Palate: At approximately 46% this runs slightly lower than Martinez's 49.5%, and you can feel a touch less thunder – but the agave's structural weight still carries, and Alejandro's clay technique is excellent
Finish: Warm, honeyed – long
The bottom line
Worth tracking. A second excellent sierra negra from the same village
