Verdict
We've been critical of the refrescador on some of Juarez's other releases; this is the bottle that makes the case for the technique. Proof is exactly where tepextate wants it, the agave's aromatics come through uncut, and the texture has a particular richness. Two consensus reviews at 4.0 undersells; we'd mark at 4.5 on the strength of proof and agave both. Compared with a Real Minero tepextate or a Lalocura release, this reads more oily, more aromatic, and more specific. Hunt it.
The refrescador and tepextate should always have met. Finally they have
Tasting notes
Nose: White peach, then wet rock, wildflower, cooked agave
Palate: Tepextate at 52.2% is proof at the right ceiling, and Juarez's refrescador lends an oily texture that suits the agave's aromatics. One of the rare refrescador bottles that justifies the rig
Finish: Floral, warming. Very long
The bottom line
Worth chasing. A tepextate where every production choice compounds
