Verdict
One consensus rating doesn't do justice to a bottle this well-made. Lalo Pérez Cortés has been building his reputation through 5 Sentidos for several years and this is among his better single-agave releases. Compared with the Martinez or García tobalás, this reads slightly more fruit-forward and more warm, a useful third corner for anyone building a tobalá flight.
Miahuatlán's signature on tobalá is softer fruit and drier minerality
Tasting notes
Nose: Wildflower, then ripe pear, wet chalk, a faint citrus top
Palate: Miahuatlán tobalá runs slightly sweeter than Albarradas; at 48.2% Lalo delivers the aromatic range this agave wants with enough proof to extend it across the mid-palate
Finish: Floral, mineral. Long
The bottom line
Chase it down. A top-tier Miahuatlán tobalá
