Verdict
Benigno's cupreata is among the most complete Guerrero bottles on the US market, the agave's savory-earth register fully expressed at 52.2%, which is a different drink than the commercial-specialty cupreatas at 40-44% pretend to be. Buy it alongside Don Mateo's El Legado for the clearest lesson in what Guerrero and Michoacán each do with the agave. Consensus 4.9 is earned.
Cupreata deserves better distribution. Aguerrido is the argument
Tasting notes
Nose: Green pepper with wildflower, dark fruit
Palate: Dense and layered, cupreata's savory undertone anchored by serious proof
Finish: Unending. Drying, mineral, warm
The bottom line
A top-tier Guerrero cupreata
