Amaras Cupreata
Amaras' cupreata – cleaner than the Logia line's entry but less distinctive than the cenizo
Score: 3.5/5 agaves
- Producer: Amaras Mezcal
- Maestro: Faustino Robledo
- Region: Mazatlán, Guerrero
- Agave: Cupreata
- ABV: 40%
- Price: $45 ($)
Verdict
Cupreata at 40% is a handicapped drink, the agave's Guerrero mineral-herbal signature is there but hollowed out by the proof. Amaras' sourcing is better than the brand's shelf presence suggests; the production math keeps making the same compromise. A gateway cupreata that points at a destination it can't show you.
Amaras finds a middle register when the agave is wild enough to carry it
Tasting notes
Nose: Green pepper, cooked agave, mineral damp
Palate: Medium-bodied at 40% – lower proof than serious cupreatas, but the agave comes through
Finish: Herbal, drying
The bottom line
Solid for the price
