Verdict
Three consensus reviews at 4.5 runs slightly ahead of us at 4.0 – this is a legitimately interesting bottle, but Ánimas's baseline is modest enough that we're calibrating toward a cleaner midpoint. Compared with the brand's straight espadín, this is considerably more specific. Compared with a Wahaka Mixteca ensamble, roughly comparable. Buy it if you want to see what Ánimas can do on its better day.
A brand that keeps making safe bottles finally made a daring one
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave, then wildflower, green stalk, faint mineral
Palate: Papalometl from Silacayoapam pairs surprisingly well with Matatlán espadín – the Mixteca dryness balances the valley sweetness. At 48% the blend is honest and the two regions meet rather than collide
Finish: Mineral, dry – long
The bottom line
Buy it. The Ánimas release most worth a look
