Score: 4.0/5 agaves

- Agave: Papalometl
- ABV: 48%
- Price: $65 ($)
Verdict
Eight consensus reviews at 4.2 is about right or a shade ahead. The bottle is Ánimas's argument that they can do more than Matatlán ensambles, and it's a decent argument. Compared to a 5 Sentidos Papalometl from the same broader agave, this reads cleaner but less particular. Compared to a Wahaka Papalometl, roughly comparable. Pick it up.

Tasting notes
Nose: Dry herb, then green stone, cooked agave, faint chalk
Palate: Matatlán-based Ánimas sending work out to Silacayoapam is exactly the kind of cross-region expansion the brand needs more of; at 48% Romualdo Martínez's intent shows through – dry, mineral, structural
Finish: Chalky, clean. Long
The bottom line
Worth owning. Ánimas's most useful single-agave release
