Brusco Espadin
SLDR espadín – Brusco's competent entry from a San Luis del Rio palenque

- Producer: Brusco Mezcal
- Maestro: Joel Velasco
- Region: San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca
- Agave: Espadin
- ABV: 45%
- Price: $44 ($)
Verdict
Brusco's range runs uneven – the SLDR espadín is the solid floor every other release should clear, and several of them don't. San Luis del Rio's mineral spine does come through at mid-tier prices, which is what the village label is supposed to deliver. Buy the SLDR espadín; check flags before buying other Brusco releases.
A respectable SLDR espadín at mid-tier economics
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave, mineral damp, faint smoke, green apple and a trace of dried herb
Palate: Clean at 45%. San Luis del Rio's village profile – slightly more stone than Matatlán, shows through the commercial-tier production clearly enough to justify the terroir label
Finish: Medium-long, dry, with a slow smoke fade
The bottom line
Fine as a San Luis del Rio category introduction
