Verdict

Distribution-tier proof applied to distribution-tier ambition produces distribution-tier results. The agave is legitimate but the 40% ceiling is what the bottle is built for; Ejutla is capable of much more, as Banhez and Brusco's tobaziche demonstrate at similar or lower money. A commercial bottle that undersells its village.

Commercial Ejutla espadín doesn't show what the village can do

Tasting notes

Nose: Cooked agave with banana candy and a trace of cooked sugar

Palate: At 40% the bottle reads thin. Ejutla can produce interesting wild-agave bottles (Banhez, Brusco's tobaziche); this commercial entry doesn't represent the village's capabilities

Finish: With a faint smoke fade – short

The bottom line

Banhez outperforms meaningfully
