Verdict

Oaxacan castilla is the reference for the agave – Durango castilla is its own argument: drier, more mineral, more northern. Burrito Fiestero at 50% supports the agave's weight without softening the regional distinction. Buy it alongside a Bozal castilla for the Oaxacan-versus-Durango version of the same agave; the state-to-state difference is sharper than most drinkers expect.

Castilla outside Oaxaca reads differently, and the difference is the whole point

Tasting notes

Nose: Warm earth, dry herb, cooked agave, a faint leather undertone and trace of dried fruit

Palate: Dense at 50%. Durango's take on castilla, drier and more mineral than Oaxacan castilla, with a northern austerity the state's climate builds in

Finish: Drying, warm, with a slow earth fade. Stays very long

The bottom line

A solid Burrito Fiestero
