Convite Espadin-Madrecuishe
The bottle that shows what Convite can actually do
Score: 4.0/5 agaves
- Producer: Convite Mezcal
- Maestro: Cosme "Tucho" Hernandez, Daniel Hernandez
- Region: San Baltazar Guélavila, Oaxaca
- Agave: Espadin, Madrecuishe
- ABV: 46%
- Price: $68 ($$)
Verdict
This is the Convite bottle that justifies the producer's reputation. The espadín/madrecuishe pairing is generous without being showy, and the proof does the work the Esencial asks the marketing to do. If you've only had Convite Esencial, this will change your mind.
The same distillery, two entirely different conversations
Tasting notes
Nose: Honey, then cooked agave, green herbs, a mineral edge the esencial never finds
Palate: Weightier, layered, with the madrecuishe giving the espadín a longer spine. 46% is what this producer should bottle at across the board
Finish: Long, drying, warmly flinty
The bottom line
The real argument for Convite. Don't judge the producer by the entry bottle
