Verdict
When a tobalá at 47% still doesn't develop, the problem isn't proof – it's upstream in the production chain. An off-note from a producer whose tepextate clears the premium bar without hesitation. A disappointing bottle that doesn't match the rest of the Cruz de Fuego lineup. Skip; drink the tepextate.
Not every tobalá from a producer hits
Tasting notes
Nose: Wildflower walks in first. Then faint smoke, cooked agave and a trace of citrus
Palate: Thin, the aromatics are muted despite adequate proof, which is the telling signal
Finish: Floral, with a slow smoke fade – medium-long
The bottom line
The Cruz de Fuego tepextate instead
