Verdict
Cuish's karwinskii catalog is the best education in agave variation an American shelf can currently provide, and the pacheco from Francisco García León at 50% is a strong instance. Buy it alongside the cuish and the tobasiche from the same maestro; the three-bottle flight is more useful than any book on karwinskii. Named, proofed, specific.
Karwinskii has more subspecies than most drinkers know – bottles like this explain why
Tasting notes
Nose: Green tobacco, wet stone, dried fig, a cool peppery lift
Palate: Pacheco is a less-seen karwinskii variant; at 50% Francisco García León keeps it lean and mineral, with the variant's slightly spicier signature coming through
Finish: Dry, faintly warm – long
The bottom line
Track it for the karwinskii education alone
