Del Maguey Madrecuixe

Madrecuishe at 47%, a ceiling, just barely cleared

Verdict

Del Maguey at scale can still ship drinkable karwinskii but the specificity loses. This madrecuishe is a proof-honest entry to the agave family; Vago and Mezcalosfera do the same agave with more maestro-level character. Pass in favor of those if you want the karwinskii taught clearly, or keep this as a solid but undistinguished option in its price class.

Madrecuishe at brand scale – the agave survives, barely

Tasting notes

Nose: Green celery up front. Pine, wet stone underneath

Palate: 47% is the floor for madrecuishe and Del Maguey lands there – Marcos Cruz Mendez and Paciano Cruz Nolasco's hand is competent but the brand's volume shows in a less-specific profile

Finish: Medium-long, cool, dry

The bottom line

Serviceable madrecuishe; specialist labels do it better
