Verdict

Tepeztate in any ensamble needs proof to hold its own, and at 46% this San Dionisio blend lets the espadín dominate what the marmorata was invited to do. Reach for the Santa Maria Albarradas wild tepextate elsewhere in the Del Maguey catalog – single-varietal is the move here. The blend is agreeable without being revelatory.

Tepeztate in a blend needs room; 46% doesn't give enough

Tasting notes

Nose: Cooked agave, then bell pepper, green citrus

Palate: Espadín and marmorata (tepeztate) blended at 46% – Anastacio Cruz Antonio's hand mutes the tepeztate's vegetal peak against the espadín's sweetness

Finish: Clean, faintly herbal – medium

The bottom line

Skip; the wild tepextate single-varietal does more with less
