Verdict
Del Maguey is a brand most critics underrate now that the middle tier has caught up. This is the bottle that says wait a minute. Tobalá's aromatic lift sitting on espadín's structural spine at 49% under Chichicapa production is an almost-too-obvious pairing, and Del Maguey renders it cleanly enough that the obvious becomes memorable. A 5.0 you don't expect to hand to the brand, and the producer earns it.
Del Maguey's best ensamble is a two-agave bottle
Tasting notes
Nose: Wildflower, cooked agave, warm citrus, mineral damp
Palate: The tobalá's aromatic lift sits on top of espadín's structure. 49% carries it
Finish: Unending. Floral, river rock, drying
The bottom line
The Del Maguey we didn't expect to score at the top
