Verdict
Derrumbes' Durango is the project's argument for geographic range. The cenizo is cleanly presented and the production isn't trying to make it taste like something it isn't. This is the bottle to pour for someone who thinks they don't like mezcal.
Durango cenizo is the antidote to Oaxaca fatigue
Tasting notes
Nose: Piney menthol with white pepper, dried hay
Palate: Lean, herbal, distinctly northern, nothing about this reads 'Oaxaca.' 45% is right
Finish: Long, dry, cooling
The bottom line
An excellent case for mezcal beyond Oaxaca
