Verdict
Mineral mid-palate, drying edges, a slow build-up of concentration – patient production rather than distillation shortcuts. Don Lorenzo's proof discipline is what makes the range worth tracking: 48% arroqueño behaves very differently from the 46% mid-tier default. Buy it as the cleanest mid-tier arroqueño on the US market; Don Amado's arroqueño at the same price undersells meaningfully.
Don Lorenzo's wild-agave range is consistently strong because the producer respects proof
Tasting notes
Nose: Dark honey. Then warm leather, bay leaf, a dry-herb undertone, faint stone-fruit underneath
Palate: Dense at 48%. Don Lorenzo's wild-agave range runs consistently well-proofed, and the arroqueño benefits most from that discipline – at 48% the agave's full weight is legible without the dilution the Don Amado version suffers
Finish: Drying, warm, with a residual mineral note that keeps cycling back – very long
The bottom line
A respectable Don Lorenzo that argues for the range
