Verdict
Don Lorenzo's sierra negra is the unfussy version of what Rey Campero and Real Minero charge more to do. Antonio Hernandez Lopez keeps the americana's cocoa-and-earth muscle intact without chasing elegance. Buy it when you want americana to actually taste like americana – dense, a little wild, not polished into submission.
Sierra negra done straight – no sanding, no compromise
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave, scorched cocoa, dried mint, distant smoke
Palate: Broad and savory – the sierra negra's meaty frame sits up front, tahona fiber texture through the mid, and 48% keeps the whole thing on rails
Finish: Warming, a touch of bitter chocolate – long
The bottom line
Buy if you want americana with weight
