- ABV: 46%
- Price: $45 ($$)
Verdict
The one Donaji worth considering. Mexicano at 46% is the pairing where even commercial producers can ship a legitimate bottle, the agave doesn't demand the extra proof arroqueño does. Not elaborate, not ambitious, just cleanly executed and appropriately proofed. Buy this one if you're buying any Donaji; the rest of the range is compromise.
A workable mexicano from a brand whose other bottles don't earn attention
Tasting notes
Nose: Green herb with faint earth, mineral damp
Palate: Medium at 46%. Mexicano's vegetal character is readable at mid-tier proof, the agave doesn't need the extra lift that arroqueño or tepextate demand – and Donaji's production is competent enough to let it show
Finish: Medium-long, dry, herbal, with a faint green fade
The bottom line
Fine as a category introduction
