El Destilado Madrecuixe
Madrecuishe at 48.2% – El Destilado's karwinskii density carried cleanly at the proof the agave actually wants
Score: 4.0/5 agaves
- Producer: El Destilado
- Maestro: Atenogenes García
- Region: San Isidro Guishe, Oaxaca
- Agave: Madrecuishe
- ABV: 48.2%
- Price: $70 ($$)
Verdict
48% is the floor madrecuishe actually needs – which makes this one of the category's reference madrecuixes at a price the El Jolgorio and Real Minero versions don't touch. The honey-slate-earth register develops cleanly; El Destilado's production keeps the density from tipping into heaviness. Buy it; the chronic madrecuishe undersell doesn't happen here.
A solid El Destilado madrecuishe that earns the category pricing
Tasting notes
Nose: Dark honey with warm earth, a faint leather undertone, dried herb underneath
Palate: Dense at 48.2%. Madrecuishe's weight is fully expressed here; the proof lands for the agave without pushing into puntas territory
Finish: Drying, warm, with a slow leather fade
