Verdict
A bottle for drinkers who've worked their way past tobalá and tepeztate and want something quieter. Jolgorio's barril is unshowy and rigorous – not the best introduction to the brand, but one of the deeper bottles in the range.
Barril is the wild agave that takes the second bottle to love
Tasting notes
Nose: Warm earth, then dried herb, cooked agave, gentle smoke
Palate: Dense, slightly bitter, textured – barril's less-celebrated nature is partly because it's less immediately charming. This one rewards attention
Finish: Savory, mineral – long
The bottom line
The Jolgorio for people who already know Jolgorio
