Verdict
Reach for El Yope when you want wild-agave character without paying Rey Campero money, the Guerrero mexicano runs drier and more herbal than its Oaxacan cousin, and that regional distinction is the whole reason to buy it. Nothing here announces itself, but nothing misfires either. No consensus on file; our 3 reflects a bottle that does its job without pleading its case.
Guerrero mexicano is a useful counterpoint to the Oaxacan version of the agave
Tasting notes
Nose: Green herb, then mineral damp, cooked agave, dry hay, a faint floral high note underneath
Palate: Lean and cleanly presented at 46%. The mexicano character is readable if restrained – Guerrero production runs a shade drier and more herbal than Oaxacan mexicano, and the regional distinction is the main reason to buy this bottle
Finish: Cooling, dry, with a slow herbal fade. Long
The bottom line
Fine. Rey Campero's mexicano outperforms at similar money
