Verdict

Entre Maguey is a young label worth watching, and Ediberto López's papalote is a clean introduction to it. Cupreata's stone-and-flower brightness comes through without the roast smothering it, and 47 percent keeps it easy to read. Pour it next to a Bozal cupreata; this one is less smoky and more floral, the better for it on a warm night.

Cupreata high notes, kept honest

Tasting notes

Nose: Wildflower, green stone fruit, hot rock, herb, a faint citrus

Palate: Bright and aromatic at 47%. Cupreata's floral-mineral lift carried clean, stone fruit over a dry rocky base

Finish: Long, floral, cooling

The bottom line

Buy it; a clean intro to a young label
