Verdict
Hunt this bottle – Sosima Olivera's coyote is a legitimately different read on a rare agave, and the Jalisco production frame gives it a drier, more austere character than the Oaxacan coyotes most drinkers have anchored against. One of the Fanekantsini releases that argues hardest for the range. Consensus 4.5 is earned; seek it out before the batch is gone.
Coyote at Fanekantsini caliber is a category event worth organizing attention around
Tasting notes
Nose: Lavender walks in first. Then dark fruit, hot stone, warm leather, a faint violet high note
Palate: Complex. At 50%, coyote's rare character rendered with the producer's signature rigor. Olivera's hand tilts the bottle slightly drier and more mineral than Oaxacan coyotes, which is the Jalisco regional signature coming through on an agave most drinkers only encounter from Oaxacan producers
Finish: Unending. Floral, drying, flinty, with a slow leather fade
