Fósforo Tobalá

Puebla tobalá – cleaner than its price suggests

Score: 3.8/5 agaves

Verdict

A Total Wine tobalá that isn't embarrassing, the bar is lower than it should be, and Fósforo clears it cleanly. Against Banhez Tobalá at the same price bracket, this is the drier, slightly more adult read. Buy it if the Banhez is sold out and you want Puebla character in a supermarket bottle.

Tasting notes

Nose: Honey, then dried flowers, melon rind, a thin mineral lift

Palate: 45% gives the tobalá room to breathe. The Puebla expression leans a little drier than Oaxacan potatorum, less candy honey, more dry grass

Finish: Floral, lightly wet slate, medium

The bottom line

A buy if Banhez Tobalá is out
