Verdict

Fine tepextate from a producer who keeps making fine, not great – mezcal. At 48% the proof is correct (unlike a lot of underproofed tepextates), but the liquid doesn't clear the bar Real Minero or Cuentacuentos set. Buy only if other Guélavila tepextates are sold out.

Tasting notes

Nose: Green pepper with tomato leaf, light floral

Palate: The marmorata reads cleanly but not vivid – 48% keeps the aromatics up, but the liquid lacks the herbal snap a good tepextate delivers. Clean, a little anonymous

Finish: Herbal, dry – medium

The bottom line

Pass if Grulani or Real Minero is available
