Verdict

Gracias a Dios makes the accessible-translation version of nearly every wild agave, friendlier proof, broader distribution, prices that don't require deliberation, and the madrecuishe is the clearest case for that approach. Where Real Minero's madrecuishe asks for reverence, this one asks for a Tuesday. Pour it as a first madrecuishe before you commit to the specialty tier, and consensus 3.7 starts to look generous in the right direction.

A madrecuishe that won't scare a new drinker – and won't impress a veteran

Tasting notes

Nose: Hot stone, dark honey, soft leather

Palate: Less dense than a Vago or Mezcalosfera madrecuishe, but the karwinskii character is still legible – 45% lets you identify the agave without giving it full structural support

Finish: Mineral, warm. Stays medium-long

The bottom line

A good introductory madrecuishe. Climb from here to Vago at 51% for the full expression
