Gracias a Dios Reposado
Barrel-rested espadín from the GaD catalog – oak over agave
Score: 3.3/5 agaves
- Producer: Gracias a Dios Mezcal
- Maestro: Oscar Hernandez
- Region: Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca
- Agave: Espadin
- ABV: 45%
- Price: $50 ($)
Verdict
Another reposado where the barrel is louder than the agave. GaD's reposado is cleanly executed, but it trades the espadín's register for the vocabulary of bourbon-adjacent drinkers. The clay-pot joven in the same catalog is a better use of the same money. Pass.

Tasting notes
Nose: Vanilla, caramel, cooked agave, mild smoke
Palate: The barrel does most of the talking. 45% is appropriate, but the espadín character is dominated by oak and caramel sweetness
Finish: Sweet, wood-led – medium
The bottom line
Pass. Get the clay-pot joven
