Verdict
Mexicano is usually sold as a lighter, more approachable agave than the wild karwinskiis, which sells it short. Victor Ramos's verde version argues the other way – this is a dense, adult, low-sweet mezcal that belongs next to your best arroqueños on the shelf. Another case of the Ramos hand lifting an underappreciated varietal. Buy without hesitation.
Mexicano verde as its serious self, not the also-ran
Tasting notes
Nose: Roasted agave, dark honey, tobacco leaf, cocoa
Palate: 48.4% – Victor Ramos's refrescador pass on mexicano verde (a rhodacantha variant) delivers a dense, earthy, savory bottle with real structural weight – closer in spirit to arroqueño than to espadín
Finish: Cocoa-dark, mineral. Stays long
The bottom line
Buy. One of the best mexicano bottles we've had
