Verdict
Kimo Sabe is one of those brands that treats mezcal as a design opportunity. The Azoth añejo is a barrel-and-story exercise where the barrel and the story are doing all the work. At $60+ there are dozens of honest artisanal bottles that would embarrass this. Skip, and point the gifter toward a Rey Campero, Del Maguey, or Gusto Histórico bottle instead.
The esoteric naming is the most interesting thing in the glass
Tasting notes
Nose: Vanilla syrup, oak, faint agave buried underneath
Palate: 41.5% – Kimo Sabe's añejo 'Azoth' leans hard on barrel and branding; the mezcal underneath is a blend from two states that the wood thoroughly disguises
Finish: Sweet, gone – short
The bottom line
Skip. Story over spirit
