Verdict
Tobaziche is the most subdued of Koch's karwinskii lineup, which doesn't mean worst – it means the most structurally restrained. Bautista's cut is clean, the proof lands for the varietal, and the bottle serves as the conservative pole in the Koch karwinskii study. Buy with Lumbre and Pulquero for a full karwinskii triangle. A useful piece of the puzzle.
The quietest karwinskii in a loud family
Tasting notes
Nose: Dry wax with pepper, faint herbaceous top
Palate: 47% – Adrian Bautista's tobaziche from Río de Ejutla reads classic karwinskii: waxy, woody, slightly vegetal, with a tight clean midpalate
Finish: Medium-long, dry, warm
The bottom line
Buy for the three-karwinskii Koch study
