Verdict
La Jicarita's tepextate is a good pour from a reliable Matatlán producer, held back slightly by the 46% ABV. It's a useful entry bottle but not a reference; for the varietal's true capability, go to the Gusto Histórico Flor Sánchez above or to Lalocura's tepextate. Buy if the price is right and you're building breadth, not depth.
A tepextate the proof couldn't quite carry
Tasting notes
Nose: White pepper, then green pepper, faint floral, damp stone
Palate: 46% – the marmorata reads cleanly but, as with the Hedonistas de la Fe tepextate at the same proof, the aromatics could use more engine; 48%+ is where this agave sings
Finish: Peppery, warm – medium
The bottom line
Buy as a tepextate entry; go bigger for reference
