Verdict
La Luna's bruto-azul is the producer thinking out loud about what happens when a wild Michoacán agave meets a cultivated one. The result is less pure than the straight bruto but more complete – the azul's sweetness softens the bruto's edges without domesticating them. Buy if you want your Michoacán nuanced; buy the straight Bruto if you want it clear. Hernández Escot's cut is consistently honest.
Two Michoacán languages, speaking over each other
Tasting notes
Nose: Green herb, cooked blue agave, cool stone, faint pepper
Palate: 48.51% – Hernán Hernández Escot blends cupreata-bruto with azul (Michoacán azul, not tequila's blue) for a denser, more agave-sweet version than the straight bruto, with the wild edge intact
Finish: Warm, faintly sweet – long
The bottom line
