La Luna Bruto - Chino

Bruto-chino – a wilder-on-wilder Michoacán ensamble

Score: 3.5/5 agaves

La Luna Bruto - Chino bottle

Verdict

La Luna's bruto-chino is the drier, more austere member of the ensamble trio, where the bruto-azul is rounder and the straight bruto is the reference. Buy for Michoacán study; the bruto-azul is the more approachable bottle for general sipping. Each of the trio holds up, and the choice is simply sweeter against leaner. Strong range.

Two wild cousins reinforcing each other, for better and leaner

Tasting notes

Nose: Green wood, then damp earth, pepper, faint citrus peel

Palate: 48.51% – chino is another cupreata-lineage varietal, and blending it with bruto pushes the ensamble further into the wild-green register; the Hernández Escot handwriting stays recognizable but the bottle sits leaner than the bruto-azul

Finish: Dry, mineral – long

The bottom line

The pick for Michoacán depth; bruto-azul for breadth
