Verdict
Espadincillo is to espadín roughly what madrecuishe is to cuishe, a sub-variety with its own character but less projection. La Luna's version at 48.51% is a capable, place-specific bottle that sits on the softer end of the range. Buy for Michoacán completeness; if you want a louder La Luna, go straight bruto or chino. Honest handwriting, quieter voice.
Espadín's quieter Michoacán cousin
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave with green herb, faint pepper
Palate: 48.51% – Hernán Hernández Escot and Isidro Perez Escot's Etucuaro espadincillo comes through like a leaner, more austere espadín relative; at 48.51% the proof is honest but the varietal itself doesn't project as loudly as the bruto family
Finish: Warm, clean
The bottom line
The pick for a Michoacán completion set
