Verdict
Tequilana outside Jalisco is both a political statement and a flavor statement. La Luna's Michoacán version at 50% comes through like a spiritual sibling to Caballito Cerrero's famous 'no-DO' tequila, blue agave with the mezcal vocabulary instead of the tequila one. Buy alongside a real tequila and a real Michoacán bruto for a three-way conversation. One of the more thought-provoking bottles on the shelf.

Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked blue agave up front. Green herb, faint pepper, wet stone underneath
Palate: 50% – Edgar Perez, Patricio Arreaga, and Sergio Cruz work the blue weber (tequilana) in Michoacán rather than Jalisco, and at 50% the resulting bottle drinks with a mezcal's depth and a tequila's structural DNA at once
Finish: Warm, clean. Stays long
