Verdict
No consensus yet, so our read: La Maliciosa espadín is another competent Martínez López release. At 48% it clears the commercial-proof threshold and drinks honestly, but it doesn't do anything the better Matatlán espadíns don't already do. Buy if you like the La Jicarita range and want the same hand at the same proof; otherwise Banhez, Vida, or Koch Elemental are all reasonable substitutes.
Another Matatlán espadín in a sea of Matatlán espadíns
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave, light smoke, green melon, faint citrus
Palate: 48% – Celso Martínez López's La Maliciosa espadín at 48% is a proof-honest Matatlán bottle that sits in the crowded middle of the espadín category, well-made, not distinctive
Finish: Warm, clean, medium
The bottom line
Buy if you're already a Martínez López regular
