Verdict
La Niña's tobalá is the tobalá the category wants from $80 – 48.4% carries the potatorum floral structure the way it demands, and the brand's clean production lets the agave character sit forward without cosmetic help. Banhez Tobalá is still the best under $60; La Niña is the next step up. Consensus 4.0; we rate 3.5 because the peak tobalás (Real Minero, Lalocura) set a ceiling this doesn't quite reach.
Same agave, three more proof points, twice the bottle
Tasting notes
Nose: Floral high notes, then cinnamon, cooked potatorum, mineral damp
Palate: Bright and cool at 48.4%. This is how tobalá should be bottled – La Medida's 45% tobalá from the same category made the case for why proof matters, and La Niña's 48.4% proves it out. Floral complexity is intact, the slate-tinged bottom is present
Finish: Floral-chalky, cool, slow fade
The bottom line
Buy. Tobalá at correct proof under $90
