Verdict
La Venenosa Etnica Tutsi Masparillo is the most complete statement in the Etnica line, the masparillo carries the Cora production the way the mai and tepe do, but adds a density that reads as peak. Lamata's masparillo-Durango is the regional counterpoint; the Cora version outworks it. Grab it when you find it. Consensus 4.4; we rate 4.5.
Masparillo translated through Cora hands is a different spirit than the Durango version
Tasting notes
Nose: Dark earth, then cooked agave, mineral damp
Palate: Rich and layered at 43%. The masparillo character, a dense, slightly tannic mid-palate – carries beautifully in Cora production; the indigenous-tradition still work adds a textural depth the Durango masparillos don't reach
Finish: Tobacco-earth, cool chalky fade
The bottom line
Grab it when you find it. Cora masparillo at peak
