Verdict
Lagrimas de Dolores Masparillo is a peak Durango wild-agave release – Enrique de la Cruz's cut is clean enough that the agave's structural density is the story rather than the production. Lamata's masparillo-Durango is comparable; the Cora Etnica Tutsi Masparillo from La Venenosa is the ceiling reference. Worth the chase. Consensus 4.3; we agree.
Masparillo is Durango's quiet answer to arroqueño. This is the bottle that proves it
Tasting notes
Nose: Dark cooked agave, cedar, tobacco, mineral damp
Palate: Rich and tannic at 47%. Masparillo in Durango is the state's closest parallel to Oaxacan wild-agave density; de la Cruz's production runs it precisely, and the tobacco-cedar signature holds the whole mid-palate
Finish: Tobacco-slate-tinged, slow cool fade
The bottom line
Worth the chase. Peak Durango masparillo
