Verdict
Lamata Lechuguilla Sonora from Yépiz is the better of the two Lamata Sonorans, marginally, but unambiguously, and the brand's willingness to carry both maestros's versions of the same agave is genuinely useful for category students. Yépiz's hand is the cleanest Sonoran production we've tasted. Consensus 4.3; we rate 4.5.
Yépiz is the Sonoran lechuguilla reference the whole north should answer to
Tasting notes
Nose: Desert herb with cooked fiber
Palate: Cleaner and deeper than the Almada version at 49.5%. Yépiz's production has a slightly greener edge and a more mineral bottom; the two Sonoran lechuguillas on Lamata's shelf invite direct comparison, and Yépiz wins by a head
Finish: Stone-cool, slow fade – very long
The bottom line
Buy. Peak Sonoran lechuguilla
