Lamata Yaquiana Sonora

Sonora yaquiana at 51.1%. A rare variant that doesn't quite justify its own shelf

Verdict

Lamata Yaquiana Sonora is a variant completist's bottle rather than a general recommendation, the Encinas hand is fine, but the Sonora Yépiz lechuguilla from the same brand outworks it at similar money. Rare-variant documentation value; limited drinking case. Consensus 3.0; we agree.

Yaquiana exists on the label. In the glass it's working to arrive

Tasting notes

Nose: Desert herb with cooked fiber

Palate: Dry and austere at 51.1%. Yaquiana is a Sonoran agave rarely bottled; the Encinas production is technical but the agave itself doesn't carry enough distinct character to recommend over the Lechuguilla Sonora Yépiz from the same brand

Finish: Dry, cool, cool close, medium

The bottom line

A pass unless cataloging rare Sonoran variants
