Verdict
Las Melodías de la Luna's tobalá is another strong Vásquez release, not as immediately commanding as her espadín or cacao pechuga, but drinking at a level above most commercial tobalás. Banhez tobalá is still the best under $60; this is the step above at named-maestra territory. Drinkers put it at 4.0, and so do we.
Vásquez's tobalá is a clinic in what proof does for wild agave
Tasting notes
Nose: Floral high notes, then cinnamon, cooked potatorum, mineral damp
Palate: Dense and floral at 49%. Vásquez's tobalá has the structural focus her espadín has, nothing wasted, the agave's floral-flinty axis is readable all the way through
Finish: Floral, cool close. Long
The bottom line
Another strong Vásquez release at 49%. Serious tobalá from a named maestra
