Verdict
Mexicano is an agave that rarely headlines but often makes an ensamble work, and Leyendas' single-varietal mexicano is a useful study bottle. The rhodacantha's mineral signature is legibly there and the proof is honest, it reads like what Rey Campero or Wahaka would build into a blend, isolated and examined. A credible sipping bottle for drinkers past the espadín-tobalá phase.
Mexicano as a supporting actor, correctly cast
Tasting notes
Nose: Warm earth. Then cooked agave, cocoa husk, a salt note
Palate: Medium-dense, with the mexicano's characteristic stony sweetness lifted by a 47.9% that feels exactly right. Nothing about the bottle is pushing; everything is proportioned
Finish: Warm, mineral – medium-long
The bottom line
A good mexicano study bottle at a fair price
